The Russian premium car market continues to change — and now the main players are no longer the familiar German brands, but Chinese SUVs. As of May 2025, the Tank brand has officially overtaken such giants as Mercedes-Benz and BMW, becoming the best-selling premium brand in Russia, reports "Avtostat".
In one month, Russians purchased 8,087 new premium cars — 27% less than a year ago. Among them, Tank accounted for 1,315 vehicles, which allowed the brand to return to the top of the rankings. It’s worth noting that Tank already held the top position back in January. In second place is Exeed, with 1,234 cars sold, losing the lead after three months of dominance. BMW takes third place with 1,090 sales and a noticeable 39% increase compared to last year. The top 5 also includes the Chinese brand Lixiang (972 cars) and Mercedes-Benz (621 units, with a remarkable 54% growth).
The secret to Tank's success lies not only in its pricing but also in the adaptation of its vehicles specifically for the Russian climate: the SUVs have been equipped with winter features and enhanced anti-corrosion protection.
