Experts have revealed whether modern Chinese models are prepared for extreme cold.
Great progress: Brands have made significant progress in adapting. New vehicles feature temperature control systems and are designed for temperatures down to -40°C.
Starting is hassle-free: for example, ROX Motor has received no complaints about starting in cold weather. Modern hybrids can be warmed up remotely.
But what about electric cars? Here's a caveat: EVs can experience a sharp drop in battery charge and increased energy consumption for heating in cold weather. But plug-in hybrids (PHEVs) have virtually no problems starting.
Experts conclude that problems with extreme cold are common to all electric vehicles, not just Chinese ones. European electric vehicles, diesels, and hybrids from other brands also suffer from freezing temperatures.
